- Consider another goal setting process
Actually, I think my SAFE proposal adds a spiritual component to SMART, so it's a whole brain method, left-brain linear and right brain intuitive.
The toughest part of SAFE for those who are primarily left-brain (as I once was) is to Accept and allow that the goal is ready and waiting to come to pass when we are open to it and have faith.

However I would suggest a blend of the two. I find that at some stage I am looking for measurement,

Yes, I understand. Having a tech background myself I like to see the numbers, analyze the data, etc. One of the goals I'm using SAFE for now involves my Suite PV's, so I look at them daily and take some actions based on what I see.
I return to the vision I've set up though to attract the growth and to stimulate (subconsciously) my actions. When I do things this way it just seems easier. Not sure I can describe it any better, though. I'm still learning.

I agree that a key element in achieving a goal is to make sure that it is embedded in your subconscious.
I find that when my clients journal about their career values and goals, they soon see opportunities that mesh with their goals appear as if by magic.
Of course, I smile when this happens as it is not magic at all. Because the goals and values have seeped into their subconscious, they subconsciously are more aware of a fitting opportunity.
Before, I believe they would not have been open to the opportunity or perhaps even recognized it when it appeared.

- Just found the SAFE system
I am enjoying the conversation.
It is odd. I am what one would call an arty type.
It surprises people to find out I teach a subject called Maths Through Art and that I am highly qualified in the Philosophy of Science (Social Science Mainly)
I see both of the SMART and SAFE approaches working together very well.I am keen on systems theory.
I read and follow Peter Senge.
I see goal setting as system devising.
So if I want to increase my PV's I endeavour to develop a self reinforcing self sorting loop.
I read an article called
"Don't Set Goals - Devise Systems" and that is where my philosophy comes from.
So for example with the Visioning Wall
http://www.busywomen.com.au/vw.jpg
I devised the system and the children only had to follow what had been arranged for them and they were in a loop that would expose out dreams to us as a collective.
What a wealth of information for their teachers to continually to referr to.
By contiunually redirecting the children's attention to the gains they are making on achieving their goals - we have created a self sorting loop.
It is not complicated to do!
It is hard to record because everyone is doing their own thing at their own level.
However you are right Joni they record it in their journals.
I have the funding this year to create a magazine dedicated to collecting that data and turning the data into an artwork too.
Only one thing .....people applaud the way I have been able to assist the children plant seeds into the subconscious.
I say rather that putting the image right out there on the wall is very blatant.
This blatancy I hope to follow through even further my teaching them
"How To Devise Their Own Personal System"
That is what I later call
Authentic Authorship.
So they follow their own dream not some one else's.
I must say I am enjoying reading the work of you two and seeing you converse together.
It has inspired me to be a little clearer about where I am coming from too,

Jo, Thank you so much for your contributions. What I can't help but think as I read your post and your site is the incredible gift you are giving your students. It excites me to think of their future. If they learn at a young age to apply these principles - wow!
It has to be highly rewarding for you!

- Goal Setting Carnival
Count me in! A goal setting carnival is a great idea. I've created a goal setting hub at hubpages.com and I'd be willing to host a carnival there.
For now this hub only contains an intro to a "hub" article linking back to my Suite article, but it could easily be expanded.
The hub page I'm referring to is here.
