- Goal Setting
I, like you, believe in the power of putting a plan to paper. I find setting mini-deadlines along the path to achieving goals not only keeps me (and my clients)on track but helps to reduce the feeling of overwhelm when the goal is a big one.
I have also found that if clients spend time and energy developing SMART goal statements and determining their top 5 career goals - then they are more open to opportunities when they come. I attribute this to embedding the goals/values subconsciously and consciously so that when an opportunity presents itself they are more likely to say "Hey, that will help me attain my goal!" or "Hey, that fits with my values!". Whereas previous to these exercises they may have let the opportunity go by unnoticed.
Happy New Year and good luck with the goals you've mentioned. Come back at the end of 2007 and let us know how you did!
