Create a statement in your office by adding unique interior design elements to the mix. Designing workspaces doesn’t have to be boring or all about practicality. Have fun and bring in fresh design ideas to create an office that welcomes people into your workspace.
Introducing a water feature at work can bring in a soothing element especially in a fast-paced environment. Water can be introduced as a plug in water fountain or an aquarium. If an aquarium is chosen, have fun with creating a tank that plays off the style of the room. A modern, minimalist approach with one large unusual fish and a neutral or primary colour scheme would be an impressive piece in a newly constructed office. In a more traditional environment, choose plants and fish that bring beauty, interest and tranquility such as angel fish or goldfish.
Bring in an element of fun and play by introducing a stress-relieving toy such as a mini sand box, simple puzzle or game (complete with a candy prize!). A mini stair case of shelving or storage cubes with slinkies to race, a collection of stress balls in an interesting container, a puzzle, lego, wind-up toys and other fun play things can make coming to your office a real treat.
Create a tea or coffee service by purchasing a small coffee machine, mugs and plates to offer green tea or other hot beverages to guests. A supply of cookies stored in a cupboard – gourmet or from a regular supermarket – will provide a warm welcome to guests that meet with you. A bowl of fruit or granola bars can also be offered.
If your office is small, a meeting table that is set up all the time may take up too much room. One alternative is to install a table that folds up from the wall on a hinge and either folding chairs stored behind the door or pull in chairs from other areas of the office when you want to use the meeting table.
Installing a creative corner in an area of your office for brainstorming ideas is a great way to motivate innovative thinking. Mount large white boards with a good supply of colourful white board markers, erasers and spray cleaner. Mount a metal strip to the wall and add magnets to secure documents to the wall during the brainstorming process. If a record of the brainstorming is needed, mount a flip chart pad to the wall.
